Dedicated to a True Lover (and therefore probably nobody)

Dedicated to a True Lover (and therefore probably nobody) is a theatrical encounter with the work and life of German auteur Rainer Werner Fassbinder. This delirious participatory assemblage begins as a reenactment of the film Whity, Fassbinder’s homage to the American Western, and a study of his meta-autobiographical Beware of a Holy Whore.

As the performers retrace the steps of the film crew, playing themselves and each other, Dedicated devolves from studied reenactment to kaleidoscopic pageant – a ritualized performance of the brutality of artistic creation, the fragility of identity and the politics of performative representation; an ecstatic destruction of self.
